The Hero I Know

Every morning, Mikey watches his mom put on her scrubs and a big, bright smile. She always says, 'Time to help people feel better!' Mikey thinks it's amazing how his mom helps others every day. He waves goodbye as she heads to work, feeling proud of his mom.

At work, Mikey's mom sees lots of people. 'Good morning!' she greets them with warmth. She checks them in, takes their temperatures, and asks how they're feeling. Mikey imagines her as a superhero, making everyone feel better.

Sometimes, Mikey's mom wraps a cuff around an arm to listen closely. 'Your blood pressure looks great!' she says with a nod. Mikey thinks she's like a detective, solving little health puzzles. He imagines her with a magnifying glass, finding clues to make people healthy.

Mikey's mom works with the doctor, too. She gets things ready, takes notes, and makes sure everything runs smoothly. 'She's my right-hand helper,' the doctor always says. Mikey thinks his mom must be very important at the office.

Some patients feel nervous, like Sarah, who's scared of getting a shot. 'Don't worry,' Mikey's mom says softly, 'I'll be right here with you.' And just like that, Sarah is brave enough to try. Mikey feels proud that his mom can make people feel brave.

Mikey's mom does so much! She answers phones, cleans tools, and even schedules appointments. 'It's like keeping the whole office healthy,' she tells Mikey. He thinks she must have special powers to do so many things at once.

When Mikey's mom comes home, he runs to hug her. 'Did you help lots of people today?' he asks eagerly. She smiles and says, 'I sure did!' Mikey feels so happy to have his mom back home.

Even after a long day, Mikey's mom always has time for him. She reads his favorite story, and Mikey feels so lucky. Because his mom isn't just any helper—she's his hero. Mikey falls asleep, dreaming of being a hero like his mom someday.
