1. John Jr and Durga learned about the Armor of God at Bible Camp. They wanted to learn more and asked the camp counselor for more information. 2. John Jr and Durga found the verse about the Armor of God in Ephesians 6:10-18. They decided to break the verse down to better understand it. 3.The verse started out "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the [wiles of the devil. " John Jr asked Durga if he knew how to be strong in the Lord. Durga said that Your spirit thrives on being connected to the earth, the world around you and to others. 3. Then John Jr explored the meaning of the verse , "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of ]the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." Durga didn't understand the Flesh and blood part. John Jr explained that the battle is spiritual, not physical. He says that the enemies we face are not people or objects, but rather an unseen spiritual enemy. 4. The last part of the verse is "Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." John Jr told Durga that they needed to stand against evil by Being Strong in the Lord., Standing on God's Word, Don't Lose Heart and Standing in Faith. 5. John Jr and Durga decide that they would try putting on the armor of God by reading and praying God's word, and remembering that God's righteousness protects them, and that they can have faith in his promises. "Mom, Earl the Squirrel is here at last!" Each morning they'd laugh as the hours passed. Earl loved Macy, her stories, her song— They’d talk and play all the day long. Then one night, Macy heard the news: They’d soon be moving, and felt the blues. She worried for Earl, her special friend, And feared their visits would come to an end. Day after day, they shared one last giggle, Macy would laugh, and Earl’s tail would wiggle. Then one day, he didn’t appear, And Macy missed him, her heart filled with fear. On moving day, she waited and sighed, Hoping to see Earl just one more time. Then, at the window, to her surprise, There was Earl with bright, sparkling eyes! Before packing their suitcases, John Jr and Yuēhàn looked at some history books to have a better understanding of how Gettysburg battlefield was so important. 2. John Jr gave Yuēhàn some history about the Civil War. The American Civil War was a war between the Union (Northern US States) and the Confederacy (Southern US States) that lasted from 1861-1865. The war was fought over disagreements about slavery, states vs. federal rights, the election of Abraham Lincoln, and the economy. 3. John Jr found some information on the battle of Gettysburg. The Battle of Gettysburg was a three-day battle fought between Union and Confederate forces between July 1 and July 3, 1863, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The battle, which was won by the Union, is widely considered the Civil War's turning point, ending the Confederacy's aspirations to establish an independent nation. It was the Civil War's bloodiest battle, claiming over 50,000 combined casualties over three days. 4. Yuēhàn found some information of the final battle and shared it with John Jr. The Battle of Palmito Ranch took place on May 12–13, 1865, near the Rio Grande in Cameron County, Texas. The battle was fought between Confederate forces under Col. John S. “Rip” Ford and Union forces under Col. Theodore H. Barrett. The battle resulted in a Confederate victory. 5. John. Jr and Yuēhàn finished packing and loaded up the car. They had a wonderful time in Gettysburg and even saw a Civil War reenactment.

Nicolas has cerebral palsy. His sister Mia loves him very much and plays with him every day. She knows that Nicolas is sick, but it doesn't bother her - she is very happy that she has a brother.
