People were burning things like gas to power their cars, factories, and machines, and it was leaking tons and tons of bad air! “Uh-oh, this is a big problem!” Too much bad air traps the Earth, similar to a heated blanket. This makes the planet hotter, called climate change, which is not good for anyone—people, animals, or plants like Mr. Tree. From then on, whenever people walked by, they’d smile and say, “Thank you, Mr. Tree!” And Mr. Tree would smile back, knowing everyone was learning how important trees are. So remember, kids: take care of trees, because they help us breathe and keep the Earth happy and healthy!

Ms. Dennis says all their celebrations revolve around light and the symbol of the Unitarian Universalist Church is a flaming chalice, each of the children have a light inside of them. River suggests they sing "This little light of mine" for the winter concert. Everyone agrees.

It is break time at school, and everyone is excited to open their lunch boxes—except for one little girl sitting all alone. Her name is Leila. She is new to the school and to Yara's class and is very shy. She doesn’t have any food for lunch like the other kids and seems very embarrassed about it. Some kids are staring at her, some of the girls are whispering to each other talking. Yara notices her sadness and feels a tug in her heart. Instead of joining her friends, Yara walks over to Leila with a smile and offers to share her lunch. Yaras friends see this and suddenly feel very bad for not being kinder to Leila. Tito comes over and offers Leila his juice from his lunch box. Keena comes over and shares her fruit with Leila. They became friends and Leila is feeling very happy.
