They relied heavily on hunting, and one of the most coveted animals was jochi pintao, a spotted peccary known for its speed and elusiveness. One day, the Tacana hunters set out to catch jochi pintao. They followed its tracks deep into the forest, but the animal was too clever and always managed to escape. The hunters grew tired and hungry, so they decided to rest under a tree. As they lay there, they heard birds singing above them. The birds, noticing the hunters' plight, decided to help. They flew down and spoke to the hunters, saying that they knew the secret of jochi pintao. The birds revealed that the peccary had been protecting something valuable—a hidden food source that could sustain the Tacana people for generations. Guided by the birds, the hunters followed jochi pintao once more, this time without trying to catch it. The peccary led them to a clearing where they discovered an unusual plant growing in the ground. This plant was yuca. The hunters dug up the roots, and the birds taught them how to prepare and cook the yuca, turning it into a nourishing meal. The Tacana believed that the yuca was a gift from the forest spirits, given to them by jochi pintao and the birds to ensure their survival. From then on, yuca became a staple food for the Tacana people, and they honored the animals and the forest that provided for them. This story underscores the Tacana's deep respect for nature and their belief in the interconnectedness of all living things. It also highlights the importance of yuca as a life-sustaining resource, symbolizing cooperation between humans and the natural world.

The main character is six year old little girl named Yara. She is a very cute, kind and sensible little girl. Yara has a very friendly face and personality. She is wearing a pink little outfit, with black ballerina pump style shoes and has two ponytails with yellow ribbons. She has long brown hair, dark eyes and a cute little button nose, with rosy cheeks. It is break time at school, and everyone is excited to open their lunch boxes—except for one little girl sitting all alone. Her name is Leila. She is new to the school and to Yara's class and is very shy. She doesn’t have any food for lunch like the other kids and seems very embarrassed about it. Some kids are staring at her, some of the girls are whispering to each other talking. Yara notices her sadness and feels a tug in her heart. Instead of joining her friends, Yara walks over to Leila with a smile and offers to share her lunch. Yaras friends see this and suddenly feel very bad for not being kinder to Leila. Tito comes over and offers Leila his juice from his lunch box. Keena comes over and shares her fruit with Leila. They became friends and Leila is feeling very happy. Pictures of birds, eyes, and shapes tell stories about the pharaoh’s life. Page 6 They quietly walk into a room with a sarcophagus, a big stone box that holds a mummy. “This mummy was once a great ruler,” says Rami. Sam and Ava feel a little scared, but also very curious! Page 7 At midday, they visit the busy market. People trade goods like wheat, dates, and cloth. “We use boats to carry our goods along the Nile,” explains Rami. Sam and Ava see bright, woven baskets full of fruit. Page 8 It is time to say goodbye. Rami waves. “Come again!” Sam and Ava open the magic book and zoom back home.
