A Wake Up Call By Ma. Melanie L. Padohinog Elisa is a simple girl who loves to stay in her room all day. She spends her time playing with her cellphone. She only gets out of her room when it is time to eat. Her parents would usually scold her because of her attitude. “Elisa, will you please go out for a while? It seems that you are too caught up with your cellphone. Can’t you help me in the kitchen? I’m so busy right now,” her mother said. “Wait for a while, Mom,” Elisa answered. “I just need to finish this video,” she added. “How many hours will I wait for you, Elisa? I need you right now!”, yelled mom. “For a while mom! I just really need to finish this”, answered Elisa. This angered mom. “If you will not get out of your room in a minute, I will confiscate your cellphone and I will not return it to you anymore,” her mother said. Elisa quickly went out of her room and said, “I’m sorry, Mom. I had been unhelpful to you. I promise I will not spend most of my time watching You Tube and playing Mobile Legends. I hope you will forgive me.” “It’s all right, Elisa. I just hope next time you will be responsible enough in using your gadgets. Remember that there is right time for that”, mom explained.

She sets off to find the missing strudel. Along the way she meets animals. A is for Adeline Mae. Adeline Mae didn’t want to go to bed. She said so... but mom said, “No. You must go.” B is for bee. While in bed, she heard a noise by the window. She lifted up her head, and looked out. What did she see? A big ole bee! He motioned with his wing. “Hey follow me. I have something you must see.” Adeline Mae jumped out of bed and ran as fast as she could, but the bee was too fast and flew far, far ahead. “Slow down.” She said. The bee turned around and flew to her side. “We don’t have time for this slack. Jump on my back.” The bee buzzed. So why could she hear this big ole bee? Well, it was because today Addie Mae turned three, and only special little girls can talk to animals as soon as they turn three. C is for cottage. Inside the secret cottage is a white fluffy poodle. “Did you bring me my strudel?” The poodle is Sir Henry, the famous one eyed dog. E is for Eagle. “I’m so sorry.” Buzzes the bee, but the Eagle took your Strudel.” He says to the poodle. “The Eagle took my strudel!” The poodle barks wildly. The bee waves his wings in the air to silence the poodle. “But don’t stress your noodle. You grouchy one eyed poodle. Because I have a plan. I brought you this girl.” “Step forward girl. In 2019, Tim Miller's participation in a charity car rally led to the inception of Lids4Kids, a recycling initiative aimed at repurposing plastic lids to support children with cancer. The project gained momentum when a viral Facebook post sparked widespread community involvement, flooding Tim's team with lid donations. Despite initial challenges at recycling depots and a temporary pause due to Covid-19 safety concerns, Tim and his team persevered. With the addition of Emma Holliday, they restructured the charity, establishing The Hub in Canberra as a center for recycling and education. Here, lids were transformed into raw materials for manufacturing, leading to the creation of colorful benches sold to support the charity's operations. Today, Lids4Kids thrives as a symbol of community resilience, having rescued millions of lids from landfills and making a tangible impact on environmental conservation.
